Thymol Uppu (also called Pothina Uppu) is a traditional medicated salt used in Siddha and Ayurvedic medicine, mainly for digestive and respiratory support. It is prepared by blending purified mineral salt with thymol crystals and herbal extracts.
Thymol is a natural compound primarily extracted from ajwain (omam) – Trachyspermum ammi – and also found in thyme – Thymus vulgaris.
In South India, “Pothina” refers to mint-like aromatic essence, and “Uppu” means salt in Tamil.
